Every search is paid from a credit balance you control. On pay as you go, there's no subscription — just add credit and go. Starter, Professional and Scale are monthly subscriptions that lower your per-name rate (Professional and Scale also raise your group size cap); they don't include any free searches, so usage still comes out of your credit balance.
You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from your Billing page. Changes take effect immediately — there's no waiting for a billing cycle to switch.
No. Credit you add never expires and carries over between plans. If you upgrade from pay as you go to a subscription, your existing balance stays exactly where it is.
You drop back to pay-as-you-go rates. Your account, search history, and credit balance are untouched — you can keep searching at the pay-as-you-go rate or resubscribe anytime.
