Acceptable Use

GroupSkip is a skip tracing tool built for real estate investors, attorneys, and other professionals who need a permissible purpose to locate someone. This page explains who the tool is for and where the line sits. It does not replace our Terms of Service, which governs your account in full.

Who GroupSkip is for

You can use GroupSkip when you have a permissible purpose for the search, including:

  • Locating property owners or their representatives for a real estate purchase, sale, or other transaction.
  • Finding heirs, beneficiaries, or executors in a probate or inherited-property matter.
  • Locating defendants or other named parties in a tax suit, foreclosure, or other legal proceeding.
  • Debt-related and legal-service locates, where permitted by applicable law.
  • Business-to-business contact, such as reaching a company's registered agent or point of contact.

Every account certifies, under our Terms, that searches are run for one of these purposes and not for anything covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

What you can't use it for

You may not use GroupSkip, or any information it returns, to:

  • Stalk, harass, threaten, or intimidate anyone.
  • Locate a person who has asked not to be found, including anyone subject to a protective order, a restraining order, or a state or federal address confidentiality program.
  • Make a decision about someone's eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or tenancy.
  • Build or support any consumer report, as that term is defined under the FCRA.

These restrictions apply no matter who asks you to run the search, including a client or employer.

We are not a consumer reporting agency

GroupSkip is not a consumer reporting agency, and the results we return are not consumer reports under the FCRA. Nothing from a GroupSkip search may be used as a factor in deciding whether someone qualifies for credit, insurance, employment, housing, or anything else the FCRA covers. If you need that kind of screening, you need a different tool, one built and licensed for it.

Where the data comes from

Search results are sourced from a leading consumer-data aggregator, under terms that require a permissible purpose for every search. We don't compile this data ourselves, and we don't independently verify its accuracy. The aggregator's own terms govern how the underlying data may be used, in addition to ours.

We require a permissible purpose for every account and every search.

Accounts that violate this policy get closed

If we have reason to believe an account is being used outside a permissible purpose, including for any use listed above as prohibited, we suspend or terminate it, without notice. We may also report violations to law enforcement. The full terms are in Section 3 of our Terms of Service.

If you appear in a search result

If your name, phone number, or address shows up in a GroupSkip result, that information came from the aggregator described above, not from us directly. You can ask us questions about this, request that we suppress your information from future results, or ask how to reach the aggregator directly, through /support. Our Privacy Policy covers this in more detail, including how we handle requests involving minors.
